South Park

Our favorite new park nearby is a central island of grass, trees and largely un-accosted playground equipment (still awesome and not all low to the ground or rubberized) nestled in what was once the city's most upmarket address – South Park.

Oskar has discovered the joy of monkeying up something and riding the big slide back down again. These photo + video taken over two weekends... things are getting back to normal here. :)

Climb up! (the platform is about 7' high)

Building "rules", of which there are an interminable number where we live, prevent a BBQ grill on the balcony. Ok, electric grill it is then.

Just enough lamb chop to make a meat-marketing great Aunt proud!

Summer Gardening

Since we'd spent a few days in hospital it seemed like a nice idea to do some balcony gardening in order to recover; heralding a new age of flax and other grasses resistant to the relentless winds of Berry St!

Hospital

Gut-wrenching and just wrong to look at, but Oskar is in hospital and we hope on the mend already. Pneumonia grabbed a hold in his left lung, after a couple of weeks of different colds from daycare.

I recall being in a hospital once when I was a kid, after I broke my arm. Maybe one other time briefly in ER when I was deliriously ill with a fever. So far since having a child I've seen the inside of a hospital for a major stay three times, and countless visits in the run-up to his birth. Sign of the times?

He is very sad, especially that he won't be there to say goodbye to Grandpa.

Supermoon June (2013)

So yesterday on June 21st the northern hemisphere had the summer solstice, and tonight we had a supermoon – a full moon when by coincidence, the moon is at is closest to the earth this year. It's a bit larger and brighter than the average full moon. Really large and bright, actually.

I thought it was worth capturing for posterity. Did the best I could with the EOS 7D and lenses I have.

Happy Fathers Day!

Well it's Fathers Day here in the US (and the UK) so we did some fun things this morning. A trip to Sports Basement in San Francisco so Mommy could buy a new jacket that fits her pregnancy, means that Oskar and I get to play with their bikes. We also went to the industrial-ghetto garden center, Flora Grubb, in order to get some new flax grasses and flowering heather ground covers for all the pots on our wind-swept balcony at home.

At Flora Grubb they have a Ritual Coffee bar inside. This is to ensure that customers at the garden center linger and perhaps, buy a few more things (it always works on me). Ritual is one of San Francisco's four recent successful hipster coffee roasters, and although Blue Bottle is my fav it's still pretty good – so we each had a cappuccino. Or in Oskar's case, a babycino (known as a babyccino in the Commonwealth). He was pretty happy about it :)))

SoccerTots – Day 1

Oskar went to his first team sport with Dada this morning – SoccerTots! Which actually means, running around in the presence of other kids and tiny soccer balls. Oskar's more into figuring out how the lid on the storage bin works, than playing with the balls contained in it. Future engineer geek – check.
