Inaugural July 4th camping trip

Oskar and Dad went for a night camping behind the barn at a ranch about 30 miles away, then next day a spot of fishing at Lake Del Valle on the way back. A very pretty wooded valley lake created by a 1960's dam (of course, part of the CA State Water Project - one of the last great public investments in CA), just 5 miles south of Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory - yes that laboratory where almost all Cold War nuclear warheads were developed.

Necessity is the mother of invention

When you live in a house with a 26' high living room, you'll need a lost balloon retrieval method sooner or later.

Behold duct tape wrapped inside out on the extensible 16' painter's handle, captures a balloon string neatly in moments!

The deck is open

We've had over 1 meter of rain here in the past three months. We all feel like we're just coming out of hibernation. The front deck living room is open for business and everyone is happy about it!
